Restaurants in Munich

Seven exceptional Munich restaurants

Dinner in an old subway train, at Munich’s highest restaurant or prepared by a chef no bigger than your thumb? Besides fine dining locations and beer gardens, Munich also has a very different culinary category to offer – unusual restaurants that will take your colleagues on a journey they won't forget in a long time. We hope you enjoy trying them out!

"Dinner in the Dark" at Schlosswirtschaft Schwaige – for everyone who wants to focus on their taste buds

When was the last time you ate something without seeing what was on your plate? At "Dinner in the Dark", an initiative created in collaboration with the Institute for the Blind, Munich’s Kurfürstensaal is transformed into a lightless room. You will be shown to your seat in the dark and the four-course meal is almost exclusively about the senses of smell and taste. Can you work out what's in your mouth? Between the courses, you and your fellow-eaters can guess what you’ve just eaten. And one thing is certain: you’ll leave the "Dinner in the Dark" with a newly found understanding of your senses.
Schlosswirtschaft Schwaige offers six rooms of differing sizes for all kinds of events. They can also be flexibly combined depending on the number of guests. You should plan around three hours for "Dinner in the Dark".

The GOP Varité Theater – for everyone who wants to accompany their meal with a show

This is a two-in-one show and dinner where you can enjoy an evening of fantastic food and an exciting show. The shows are a mixture of theatre, acrobatics and comedy. They are served with seasonal dishes. In winter, for example, they include chestnut soup, black-feathered chicken and baked apple, with vegetarian options naturally available as well.

The GOP offers corporate customers a discount on the ticket price for groups of 20 or more. The entire theater hall can be rented for up to 312 people. The shows normally last around two hours, including the interval.

The Giorgia – for everyone who wants to travel back to the colorful Italy of the 1980s

Munich is not called “Italy's northernmost city” for nothing. After all, the people of Munich have a special relationship with their “neighboring” country. And Giorgia is the perfect place to enjoy a taste of Milan's glamor from the 1980s. Maximalism is the dominant feature from the carpeting to the mirrored ceilings: ultra-large floral prints on the chairs and walls, pasta on plates that look like sunflowers, and toilet rooms with disco balls on the ceiling. Another bonus is the excellent food, with the pasta from Parmesan cheese particularly recommended.
Tables can be booked online a month in advance for up to 25 people. For larger groups and special occasions, Giorgia can be contacted direct giorgia@bigsquadra.com.

Le Petit Chef – for everyone who wants a show on their plate

A chef no bigger than a thumb? How’s that supposed to work? The latest 3D technology makes it possible. At Le Petit Chef in Munich, you can watch the world's smallest chef prepare your meal virtually. Choose from two menu options and watch as the little hologram struggles with ingredients twice the size of the animation. That’s guaranteed to make your whole team laugh. This trend from Marseille has become a worldwide phenomenon – and will continue to be a topic of conversation after the event.
Dinner here lasts around two hours. It’s also important to know that the audio accompaniment is only in German.

Dining at Restaurant 181 in the Olympic Tower – for everyone who wants to aim high

Dining with fabulous 360° views from Munich's highest restaurant is not for anyone who’s afraid of heights. The Olympic Tower is not only a Munich landmark, but also home to Restaurant 181. The name indicates the height at which the restaurant seems to hover over Munich. The 360° experience is guaranteed, as the platform on the Olympic Tower almost imperceptibly rotates around its own axis every 49 minutes.

Extra tip: Why not book a dinner at sunset, if the time of year is right.

Dinner in the Astor Film Lounge – for everyone who can't get enough of movies

Enjoy a meal while watching the latest blockbuster or arthouse movie? That’s possible in the Astor Film Lounge at Arri, Munich's most traditional movie theater. It can be rented for events and provides an unforgettable cinema experience. First, have a drink at the Arri bar and then enjoy a film in the cozy red-velvet armchairs of the Club Room. Food is served at the touch of a button so you can enjoy the movie in peace.

You can choose from three different movie theaters, with the Club Room seating up to 69 guests, the Arri up to 177, and the Astor up to 333. It’s also important to know that it’s finger food.

La Favela – for everyone who fancies traditional Brazilian cuisine in an old subway car

Want to experience the flavors of Rio de Janeiro in a disused subway car? Just come to La Favela. On the grounds of Bahnwärter Thiel, a cultural center on the site of what was the slaughterhouse’s large cattle hall, Munich has space for unusual concepts such as La Favela. The old wagons have been lovingly refurbished, fitted out with tables and pleasant lighting, and are now home to excellent South American cuisine.

Colleagues who fancy pão de queijo (baked cheese dough balls), picanha (traditional boiled beef steak) or pudim de leite (caramel pudding) are in the right place at La Favela.
